Staff Food Hygiene Training

Help your team put good food-hygiene practices into action. Pass Your EHO offers practical support with staff training and responsibilities, tailored to the way your kitchen works. Build confidence in everyday checks, allergen enquiries and the procedures staff may need to explain during an EHO visit.

Language support for your team

Olga provides Russian and Lithuanian translation and can speak and understand Polish, helping your team follow food-safety guidance.

Olga also works as a Russian–English telephone interpreter in medical and legal settings. This experience supports clear explanations and careful checking of understanding when working with multilingual food-business teams.

Tell us which languages your staff use and which tasks need attention. Support can cover allergen questions, cleaning routines, temperature records, safe food handling and understanding the actions in an EHO report.

For new opening teams, established kitchens, new starters and businesses addressing gaps highlighted in an inspection. Contact Olga to agree the training needs, format, availability and price.

Food-safety knowledge that works during service

A folder of procedures helps only when people understand and use it. Practical training connects the written system with real tasks: receiving a delivery, checking food temperatures, cleaning equipment, answering an allergen question or reporting a problem.

We start with your business, rather than assume every kitchen has the same needs. Tell us what food you prepare, the roles in your team and any findings in your EHO report. We can then discuss the most useful focus for the support.

What staff training can cover

  • Personal hygiene and the responsibilities of food handlers.
  • Preventing cross-contamination through safe working routines.
  • Temperature checks, accurate records and what to do when a check reveals a problem.
  • Cleaning schedules, responsibilities and evidence that cleaning is completed.
  • Allergen awareness, accurate information and communication between front-of-house and the kitchen.
  • Using your SFBB or HACCP-based food-safety procedures in everyday work.
  • Opening and closing checks, stock rotation, deliveries and pest awareness.
  • Supervisor checks, staff responsibilities and recording instruction or refresher training.

The content and scope should reflect your actual operation. Specialist processes or requirements can be discussed before any work is booked.

Training before your first EHO visit

New starters need clear instruction before they carry out food-handling tasks. Give each person responsibilities they understand, show them where records are kept and check that they can demonstrate the relevant procedure. This helps turn opening-day preparation into daily habits.

If you are setting up a new premises, our one-off pre-opening food hygiene inspection can review staff readiness alongside the kitchen and its systems.

Training after a low food hygiene rating

If an inspection identified gaps in staff knowledge or management controls, training should address those findings and be followed by checks in normal service. Updating a document alone will not show that the team can use it consistently.

We can discuss training as part of a wider food hygiene rating improvement plan. Keep evidence of what was covered, who attended and how managers checked understanding afterwards.

Staff training questions

Is this a certified Level 2 or Level 3 course?

This page describes practical workplace guidance and staff training support. It does not advertise an accredited qualification or promise a Level 2 or Level 3 certificate. If you need a particular qualification, tell Olga before booking so the appropriate route can be discussed.

Can the whole team be involved?

Tell us the team size and the roles involved, including kitchen staff, supervisors and front-of-house staff. Olga can discuss an appropriate format and which topics are relevant to each role.

Do experienced staff still benefit from training?

Refresher support can be useful when the menu, equipment, suppliers or procedures change, or when a check shows inconsistent practice. Experienced staff also need to understand the system used in your particular business.

How much does it cost?

Training requirements vary with the team and the support needed. Contact Olga for an agreed scope and quote. Our inspection package prices and travel terms are available separately.

Does training guarantee a 5 food hygiene rating?

No. Training supports safer practice, but the council assesses the business as a whole. Staff must put the procedures into practice, and management must check that standards are maintained.
