What to do after a poor EHO inspection
If you are searching for “failed EHO inspection help”, the first step is to understand the officer’s written findings and any required action. Deal with immediate food-safety risks and follow the officer’s directions and deadlines. A disappointing rating needs a clear response, not guesswork.
- Gather your inspection report, rating letter and any notices or follow-up correspondence.
- Identify urgent actions, who is responsible and what needs to happen next.
- Check whether the problem is with food handling, the premises, food-safety management, or a combination.
- Keep honest, dated evidence of completed improvements and checks. Never fill in records for checks that were not done.
How Olga can help you improve
We review the information available and the way your business actually operates. A practical inspection can look at food handling, cleaning, equipment and premises condition, allergen controls, SFBB or HACCP-based procedures, staff understanding and the records used each day.
The aim is a prioritised action plan you can use: what needs attention, what evidence to keep and how to check that the changes continue during a busy service. Where staff need support, we can discuss practical food-hygiene training alongside the improvements.
Moving from a 4 to a 5
A rating of 4 means standards were assessed as good. To work towards a 5, the full inspection report is more useful than guessing from the headline number. A clean kitchen can still have gaps in records, staff practices or management controls. We help you identify the areas to address and build consistent evidence.

Preparing for a re-rating visit
After making improvements, you can ask your local authority about a re-rating inspection. An appeal challenges the original rating; a re-rating visit assesses standards again after changes. They are different routes. Check the instructions in your letter and your council’s current process, fees and requirements.
Before requesting a revisit, review whether the corrective work is complete and the new routines are working. We can help you organise the action plan and supporting evidence. We cannot set the date of the council’s visit or decide its outcome.

Questions about improving a food hygiene rating
Can you help after a rating of 0, 1 or 2?
Yes. Contact us with the report and explain any urgent directions or deadlines. Our Crisis & Urgent Remediation package is designed for businesses needing help after a poor rating. Confirm visit availability with Olga; consultancy does not replace action required by the local authority.
Can a business with a 3 improve?
A 3 means standards were generally satisfactory at the inspection. The report can show what needs to improve. We help you review those findings and the systems behind them, with a practical plan for stronger standards.
Can you guarantee a 5?
No. The local authority assesses the business and awards the rating. Our role is to identify gaps and help you prepare and maintain safer, more consistent working practices.
What should I send when I enquire?
Send your business name, postcode, rating, inspection date and a short explanation of the main concerns. Tell us if you have the inspection report and any deadline. We will explain how to share the relevant documents; avoid sending unrelated personal information.
