Food Hygiene Rating questions
How do I check my food hygiene rating or EHO rating?
Search by business name and town, street or postcode. Select the correct premises to see the official Food Hygiene Rating published by the Food Standards Agency and the relevant local authority.
Is an EHO rating the same as a food hygiene rating?
Yes. “EHO rating” and “food safety rating” are common informal names for the official Food Hygiene Rating awarded by the relevant local authority following an inspection by an Environmental Health Officer.
Why did I receive a 4 instead of a 5?
A 4 means standards were assessed as good, but one or more aspects did not meet the highest standard. The inspection report and any published component scores can help identify the areas to review.
Can I improve a low food hygiene rating?
Yes. Address the inspection findings, strengthen food-safety controls and gather evidence that procedures are consistently followed. Your local authority decides whether and when a new official rating is awarded.
How do I request a food hygiene revisit?
First complete the required improvements and keep supporting evidence. Then follow your local authority’s revisit process; a fee and application form may apply. Check the authority’s current rules before applying.
Can Pass Your EHO guarantee a 5?
No. Only the relevant local authority can award or change an official Food Hygiene Rating. Pass Your EHO provides independent, practical guidance to help a business improve its systems and inspection readiness.
What does Confidence in Management mean?
It concerns food-safety systems, records, staff knowledge, training and evidence that procedures are understood and consistently followed.
How should a new restaurant prepare for its first EHO inspection?
Put business-specific HACCP or SFBB procedures, allergen controls, temperature records, cleaning schedules, staff training and management checks in place from day one, then test that the team can follow and explain them.
